A press conference was held today in Albany, NY with the owner of Five Lakes Wrestling, Frank James. Journalists and local media gathered in a small room as he released the following statement..
“For many years I dreamed of bringing consistent, quality, professional wrestling to the Great Lakes region of North America. I’m proud to say that we have delivered that, and will continue to do so for a very long time. However, since we started touring the many towns and cities that surround this part of the world, people have reached out to ask when we or if we would be bringing our product to their part of the world. The fact is though, Five Lakes Wrestling is and always will be a regional promotion.
That said as the recent months and shows have passed I’ve developed new ideas and ambitions that I want to fulfil. We’ve negotiated terms successfully with a number of great people, and sometimes we’ve been unsuccessful too, which is to be expected. We host weekly events across a large area and not every wrestler can commit to that agenda. Whats more, the continuous nature of booking our superstars into exciting and relevant match ups prohibits us, at times, from putting on tournaments or special events that you, me, and our fans might like to explore.
So we needed to expand, and offer a different product that can encompass all of these ambitions, broaden our scope, and permit total freedom to the who, when, and what we offer. Therefore, I’d like to announce a sister company to 5LW, in the North American Wrestling League.”
He paused momentarily to unveil the NAWL logo on a board behind him.
“The NAWL will host sporadic events, most likely every couple of months, in a variety of locations across, you guessed it, North America. There will be champions, like any other promotion. However champions may not defend their titles for several months at a time, because these events will vary in their format, what’s scheduled, and who competes. For instance, event number one will be a 16 wrestler tournament with all matches fought under pure wrestling rules. The winner will be crowned the NAWL Pure Champion and invited back to defend their title at a later date. Future events may, or may not, involve trios, veterans, rookies, undiscovered talent, or junior heavyweights to name a few potential examples of what we have discussed behind the scenes. Nothing is off the table, and at this stage, aside from the Pure Rules Event, nothing has been formally scheduled.
Further details of who is competing will be announced in due course. So until then, thank you for you time. And we look forward to seeing in Boston, on March 1st.”
