PURE TITLE TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND
IN THE RING
The inaugural NAWL event got underway with Frank James coming out to greet the crowd. He promised a great series of wrestling, climaxing with the first ever NAWL Pure and Internet Champions. In the mean time, future events were already being put together in the background, and promised further announcements in the coming weeks.
MATCH 1
OPENING BOUT
Caine Landry v Lily Blaise
Caine Landry needed no introduction to the crowd, as the brother of 5LW star Gabriel he was given a mixed reception from the off. Blaise appeared to be equally well known, as they wasted no time in kicking off the show. Landry showcased his technical abilities, a variety of Suplexes putting Blaise in all kinds of trouble. Dominating most of the match he set himself up for the win with a 360 Splash, but Blaise saw it coming and rolled out of the way in the nick of time, seizing the moment straight after with The CL Lock (High Angle Calf Hold) that Landry had no choice but to tap out of.
Winner: Lily Blaise
MATCH 2
Silas Romero v Calder Rhys
Romero has told the world that this event was ‘made for him’, dismissing he chances of anyone that comes before him and the title. Only a fool would overlook his opening round opponent in Rhys though, as these two put on an incredible show. Twisting one another inside out, both men found themselves having to use the ropes on a couple of occasions to stay in the game. Romero switched things up and started dishing out more strikes and narrowly missed his deadly GKFO (Ripcord Rolling Elbow) for a potentially decisive win. Calder quickly countered with his Calderization (Running Double Knees), but remarkably Romero returned with an Arkham Asylum (Arm-Trapped Crossface Submission) from nowhere! Calder held on as long as possible but the final rope break was too far out of reach.
Winner: Silas Romero
BACKSTAGE
Lily Blaise was backstage after win with 5LW and NAWL interviewer Emma Harrington. Despite the narrow win she was very bullish about her prospects of winning overall, backing herself against any man or women she goes on to face. She was already better than them, she said, despite her young age. Tapp Adams then came into shot. He wasn't surprised Lily came through tonight, just like he will later. He said he had plotted his path to victory, and looked forward to seeing her soon.
MATCH 3
Ryan Samuels v JC Keeton
Samuels, for a man that had boasted of his ‘superior wrestling abilities’ looked considerably out of his depth for this encounter. Right from the bell he had no regard for the rules whatsoever and was immediately cautioned for a slap to the face followed by a rope break Keeton forced him into. He argued each time that this was unethical, going as far to call the Referee a ‘cheating piece of trash’. Keeton saw this one out without having to break sweat after the third and final caution meant he was awarded the win inside two minutes. Samuels didn’t take the decision lightly, sending both his opponent and the official to the mat with a Lariat each before storming backstage.
Winner: JC Keeton (by disqualification)
BACKSTAGE
JC Keeton was making his way through the backstage area clutching his head when he bumped into Silas Romero. Romero smirked, he knew all too well what Ryan Samuels was about, and wasn’t surprised at his actions. Keeton didn’t care for it though. He had hoped to face the best of the best in this tournament, and thus far had been wasting his time. He hoped his next opponent(s) would give him a proper fight. Romero smirked again. ‘Don’t worry about that,’ he replied.
MATCH 4
MYŌJIN v Jenna Jillian Walker
MYŌJIN was given a warm reception. Many had speculated if they would appear and were naturally pleased to see them on the entrance ramp. Walker was less warmly received, and went out of her way to irritate the crowd more en route to the ring. The cockiness soon faded however when MYŌJIN put her under the cosh inside the ropes. Walker was equally adept though, and hit back with some unexpected power moves. Once on top she looked to close it out, letting everyone know she was ready to hit the BluePrint (Cradle Piledriver) but MYŌJIN flipped her onto the mat and swiftly latched on the Chamaeleon (Spinning Inverted Figure-Four Ankle Lock) for an impressive comeback.
Winner: MYŌJIN
MATCH 5
Jack McGrath v Lachlan Kane
Former 5LW Television Champion McGrath was predictably jeered as he entered the arena, unperturbed by the reaction as always. Irishman Kane was an instant favourite with the Boston crowd, and used that momentum to get off to an inspiring start. Few people, if any, make McGrath look average but the opening five minutes was a one sided affair. Eventually Patient Zero found a way back in, and began wearing Kane down with some hard hitting moves. A brief reprisal was eventually overturned with Things Fall Apart (Vertical Drop Brainbuster) securing Jack's spot in the next round in this close encounter.
Winner: Jack McGrath
MATCH 6
DEADMAN Tapp Addams v Journeyman Phillips
With both men in the ring, the bell sounded and this one was everything we expected it to be, as Phillips, for all his bravado and experience was no match for Addams. The once highly regarded Englishman failed to keep up with the wristlock specialist, and after using his three rope breaks, succumbed to a Good Intentions (Wrist Clutch Straightjacket Backstabber) there was no way back from.
Winner: Tapp Addams
BACKSTAGE
Archie Collins was standing by with Emma Harrington. Asked about his opponent tonight he had little to say. Parker was just another man stood between him and glory. The first of three people, in fact, he was going to overcome. He wasn't dismissing anyone, they were all here on merit, but they weren't to be feared either. He had lost too much time in his career to waste the days on worrying about what might be and who might get in his way. He was the man to beat and by the end of the night everyone would know about it.

MATCH 7
HEADLINER
Travis Levitt v Alexander Sokolov
The intimidating Sokolov put Levitt on the back foot with an aggressive offence, but The Dragon has weathered many storms over the years and pulled this one back with some slick holds and power moves. Sokolov was arguably more dangerous on the back foot though, galvanised by the more Levitt threw at him, and came roaring back with a couple of Shibata Style Headbutts to leave his opponent unable to continue.
Winner: Alexander Sokolov
MATCH 8
MAIN EVENT
Archie Collins v Sean Parker
Five Lakes star Parker was given a great reception for this final match of the first round. The athletic Collins, himself now employed by the NAWL's sister promotion, looked extremely focused as he headed to the ring to a mixed reception. The fight was a worthy main event, as they tussled back and forth with great energy. Parker was unable to get to the top rope, despite several attempts, as the Rip City Butcher ensured this stayed well within the confines of the squared circle. Once Parker finally found himself on the turnbuckle Collins was able to get his knees up, and with the Brit doubled over he wasted no time hitting the Grappling Hook (Stunner) to land himself a spot in the Quarter Finals. Parker pulled himself to his feet and true to his character raised Collins' arm in the air, as the first night come a close.
Winner: Archie Collins
