PURE WRESTLING GRAND PRIX
CHAPTER ONE
NIGHT TWO
MARCH 2024
BOSTON, MA
PURE TITLE TOURNAMENT QUARTER FINALS
MATCH 1
Alexander Sokolov v Jack McGrath
Two natural born killers effectively here, coming face to face inside the ring. Neither man flinched as they drew closer to one another’s faces. Once the bell sounded it was every bit the hard hitting affair we expected. A back forth war of attrition that went on for some time. McGrath, a fast rising star in the NAWL's sister promotion, always looks his best in these kind of circumstances. But this was no easy fight, as the dangerous Sokolov kept coming back for more, putting the former Razor Wrestling World Champion to the test. A Burning Lariat to McGrath looked set to be the end of his run but somehow he got back to his feet. Sokolov tried following up with a Headbutt but was stopped in his tracks by McGrath, who by now was on about his fourth wind. He came roaring back with vengeance in the form of Extinction (Multiple chops in corner, followed by a headbutt of his own) as Sokolov dropped to the corner of the ring. McGrath stepped back and looked around the arena, ready to finish him off, but was speared to the ground by the Russian. Wrestling back to their feet McGrath whipped him into the ropes and followed up with Things Fall Apart (Vertical Drop Brainbuster), and this time there was no coming back. He looked down at the beaten Sokolov and nodded, a worthy challenger and rare mark of respect, knowing full well he had laid down a marker with this victory.
Winner: Jack McGrath
MATCH 2
Silas Romero v Ryan Samuels
Two Five Lakes Wrestling heavyweights here. A pair of future Undisputed Champions, many would say. Masters of the mat, behemoths of the brawl. It was only a matter of time before these two cross paths and what a fight what we had on our hands as the bell soun- oh fuck. Samuels lands a closed fist punch on Romero immediately, proceeding to argue with the Referee after his reprimand. ‘PURE RULES CAN KISS MY ASS!’ He yells, before punching Romero a second time. Remarkably the official gives me a third and final chance, eager to ensure the match ACTUALLY gets underway as they finally begin brawling around the ring. Romero though knows what he needs to do and pushes Samuel's into using the ropes one too many times for a break. Samuels goes to attack him, much like he did with Keaton last time out, but Romero is ready for him and the fight we all wanted to see at last takes place, albeit after the bell. Eventually officials come and break things up, as Romero exits, taunting the irate Samuels all the way up the entrance ramp.
Winner: Silas Romero
MATCH 3
Archie Collins v Tapp Addams
A match worthy of being the Main Event on any given night, the much celebrated Addams entered the ring and stared down the imposing Collins. The Rip City Butcher was a terrifying man but not in Addams eyes. With both seemingly equal in their confidence and abilities this was going to be a good battle of wits and ahtleticism. With barely anything between in terms of size and stature they were natural dance partners, foiling one another's takedowns throughout. Unsurprisingly, this match reached the 15-minute time limit, the first in the tournament to do so. The crowd applauded at the final bell, as everyone around the arena waited with baited breath to see who would get the verdict. The judges deliberated for quite some time before awarding the win to Addams. Collins shook his head. He didn't agree but was didn't complain either, humbly accepting the result to an ovation as he exited the ring.
Winner: Tapp Addams
MAIN EVENT
MATCH 4
Lily Blaise v MYŌJIN
Blaise and MYŌJIN are no strangers to one another, and this Main Event kicked off with some unexpected pleasantries as they nodded across the ring at one another in respect before the bell. Once things got underway it was far from friendly though, dancing between the ropes like a couple of star crossed lovers. After five minutes of tussling they both paused for breath, as the fans clapped and cheered this enthralling match up. MYŌJIN smirked, impressed at how far his opponent had improved, but ensured she didn’t get the upper hand when they reconvened. Once back on top their experience shone through, fending off the young and enthusiastic Blaise with ease. But she was never out of it, and a series of two counts began to frustrate MYŌJIN, eventually sliding around the back to land an unsuspecting Shattered Image (Rude Awakening). Blaise made the pin and rolled out the ring. MYŌJIN pulled themselves to their feet and looked up the ramp. Blaise just shrugged, her music blaring as the night came to a close.
Winner: Lily Blaise
